Singing Lessons

Voice Lessons with Rachael Jewell

Find Your Voice. Build Your Confidence. Express Your Authentic Self.

Have you always wanted to sing but weren't sure where to begin? Maybe you sing in the shower, at church, in a choir, or around the house and dream of feeling more confident with your voice. Or perhaps you're an experienced singer looking to refine your technique, expand your range, prepare for performances, or overcome vocal challenges.

No matter where you are on your singing journey, voice lessons can help you unlock the full potential of your unique voice.

I believe that everyone can learn to sing and that every voice deserves to be heard.

As a classically trained soprano with a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Ottawa, over 25 years of performing experience, and 14 years of teaching experience, I have helped singers of all ages and abilities develop healthy vocal technique, greater confidence, and a deeper connection to their authentic sound.

My performance background spans Classical, Musical Theatre, Spiritual, Pop, and Rock music, allowing me to tailor lessons to a wide variety of musical interests and goals.

In addition to teaching voice, I am the co-owner of Harmonic Egg Ottawa, a songwriter, sound healer, anthem singer for the Ottawa Senators, and lead vocalist of the Ottawa-based rock tribute band Queen of Heart. My diverse background allows me to bring both technical expertise and creative expression into every lesson.

My Teaching Philosophy

Over the years, I have studied with many voice teachers and experienced a wide variety of teaching styles. One of the most influential teachers in my own vocal development was Dr. Michael Warren in New York City. His approach focuses on finding freedom in the voice first and allowing healthy technique to develop from that foundation.

This philosophy deeply resonated with me and continues to shape how I teach today.

Many voice lessons can become overly focused on identifying problems and correcting what a singer is doing "wrong." While technical guidance is important, constant correction can sometimes cause students to become tense, self-conscious, and overly analytical. When this happens, the body often shifts out of a natural, expressive state and into a state of contraction, making singing feel more difficult rather than more free.

I believe lasting vocal growth happens when students learn to recognize and build upon what is already working. When you can feel what freedom, ease, resonance, and healthy vocal production actually feel like in your own body, your voice naturally begins to organize itself more efficiently. Often, many technical challenges resolve themselves as awareness and confidence grow.

My goal is to create an environment where you feel safe to explore, experiment, and make discoveries without fear of judgment. From that place of safety and curiosity, we can develop strong technique, expand your vocal abilities, and cultivate a voice that feels authentic, expressive, and uniquely your own.

Rather than trying to force your voice into a particular mold, I help you uncover the natural potential that is already there. Together, we'll build greater freedom, confidence, and ease so that singing becomes not only more effective, but also more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Every student is unique. That's why lessons are personalized to your individual goals, learning style, musical interests, and experience level.
